General Advantages of  Track Saws

Track saws are power tools that are meant for cutting just like the other saws made by Dewalt and other manufacturers.  What makes this different though can be summed up in just one word: accuracy. Its mechanism is not that much different from circular or panel saws.  However, because these use tracks as guides for cutting, the result is indeed a much straighter and smoother cut.  All that the operator has to worry about when using this particular tool is the depth of the cut.  Certain track saw variants though have the means already of making the depth adjustments easier for the operator.

In the below video you can see how a track saw is compared to a table saw:

Features and Pros & Cons

As can be observed from the Dewalt track saw specifications, there is barely any difference that can be pointed out from all the models or variants that are already available.  However, it is actually in the features that some important distinctive features can be found.

  • DWS520SKH

This Dewalt track saw is considered as heavy-duty track saw.  With zero clearance, it is able to cut with great precision without any resulting splinter. The 12 A and 1300 W motor is behind this amazing performance.  It is this powerful motor also that makes it possible for the DWS520SKH to cut hard woods at the maximum thickness of 2-1/8” thick. When sold, this comes with a kit box.  Included in the kit is a 6-1/2” (20mm arbor size) 48-Tooth Ultra Fine finishing blade.  Aside from this, there is also a blade wrench, which is the tool used for removing or replacing the blade.  A 59” track is also part of the purchase.

  • DWS520SK

The DWS520SK does not have much difference from the DWS520SKH when it comes to the basic features.  It also has a 12 A, 1300 W motor that can effortlessly cut hard wood.  Making the device safe to use is the continuous anti-kickback mechanism and riving knife.   With its low profile blade guard, this saw can still be used in spaces that are cramped or not big enough. This heavy duty track saw when bought includes a kit box. Inside the kit is a 48-tooth Ultra Fine finishing blade.  This is the kind of blade that is used for finer and smoother cuts.  For easy blade replacement, a blade wrench is also included in the kit.  There is a 59” track which is used as guide for sawing.

  • DWS520LK

Another heavy duty track saw from Dewalt, the DWS520LK has great ergonomics which can be attributed to the straight plunge mechanism. This feature is actually common to all of Dewalt’s track saw variants.  This device is designed only for use on Dewalt’s own dual-edged tracks in order to produce perfect cuts from either direction.  Similar to the other Dewalt track saw models, a kit box is also provided when the DWS520LK is bought.  Along with this is a finishing blade with 48 teeth.  This track saw has a longer track though, at 102”.  A blade wrench is also included in the kit.

  • DWS520CK

The DWS520CK has an on-track cut depth of 2-1/8”at 90° and 1-5/8 at 45°.  Most of its other capabilities are not much different from the other Dewalt track saws.  Making the task of sawing less messy is the fact that this has a universal 1-1/4” dust port.  This dust port can actually collect 90 percent of the dust with the use of its built-in vacuum.  Its motor which is powered by 12A and 1300 W of electricity is the strong enough to saw 2-1/8” of thick hardwood. Sold with a kit box, this includes very fine finishing blade.  Unlike the other track

  • DWS520K

The specs and features of this particular track saw from Dewalt are basically the same as the others.  It is a zero clearance track saw, which is meant for sawing with accuracy and straightness, without splinters.  It also has a low profile blade guard, which makes this usable even in cramped areas.  Its dust port guarantees 90 percent of the dust to be collected through vacuum.  Its kit box has a blade wrench and an ultra fine finishing blade. Unlike the previous four variants, however, this is not sold along with tracks.
