Tiles are often used as flooring for homes. Depending on the design of the home or building, tiles may also be used for walls. Most people would buy pre-cut tiles so that they would no longer have any problem in installing them. However, there may be cases when there would still be a need to cut the tiles according to the dimensions required by the situations. In such instances, there would be the need for special cutters that are called tile saws. Dewalt is a reputable name when it comes to such tools. There may not be many variants and models of Dewalt tile saws but these are quite popular among homeowners and contractors.
Dewalt Tile Saw – Which One To Buy?
There are only three different models of Dewalt tile saws. A close look at the features of each would tell, however, that essentially, there are only two. This is because the only difference between of the models is the presence of a stand. These are the Dewalt tile saw variants:
- Dewalt D24000 1.5-Horsepower 10-inch Wet Tile Saw
- Dewalt DWC860W 4 3/8″ Wet and Dry Hand Tile Cutter
- Dewalt D24000S Heavy-Duty 10-inch Wet Tile Saw with Stand
Tile saws are not much different to the powered wood saw in terms of mechanism. Since it is a power tool, it is basically operates because of its electrical motor. The blade is attached to the motor, which is why when the motor functions, the blade also turns fast and powerful enough to cut a hard material such as tiles.
The reason the tiles would not break into pieces despite the pressure applied by the saw is that the blade is designed specifically for the purpose of cutting tiles. This means that its blade, which also has a disk shape, is not entirely similar to those meant for wood. Tile saws can be categorized into two: hand-held and table saws.
Features & Specs – What to Expect
The following are the features of each Dewalt tile saw as well as their advantages and disadvantages:
- Dewalt D24000 1.5-Horsepower 10-inch Wet Tile Saw
This Dewalt tile saw is quite big and heavy, which is why it is only appropriate that it is built as a table-type saw too. This device has a heavy duty motor that can produce a power equivalent to 1.5 HP. This is strong enough to make the saw deal with hard materials, including thicker tiles. Aside from its cutting power, accuracy and cut depth there are two other features that this tile saw can be proud of. Its cut depth is 3-1/8 inches. Its ripping capacity on the other hand is 24 inches.
Users have often pointed out that this machine has a bevel feature and plunge-cut that makes working quite convenient. For easy cutting of the tiles, adjustable water nozzles are placed to wet the materials when necessary. This Dewalt tile saw is sold with a 3-year warranty. The only disadvantage of this particular tool is that the user has to find a level surface to place it on since it does not have a stand of its own.
To see this tile saw in action and to find about even more of its features see the video below:
- Dewalt DWC860W 4 3/8″ Wet and Dry Hand Tile Cutter
There are some instances when the tiles to be worked on can no longer be brought to where a table tile saw is. In such cases Dewalt DWC860W is the solution. This is a wet and dry hand tile cutter. As a hand-held tool it is already clear that its most important asset is the convenience that it provides the user. It is lightweight and has brushes that are easy to reach. The rubber grip guarantees non-slippage and accuracy while cutting tiles. The powerful motor can perform 1,400 to 11,500 rpm.
The motor is 12.5 Amp and the tile cutter has a bevel capacity of 45 degrees. The cut depth, on the other hand, at 90 degrees is 1-3/8 inches. This Dewalt tile cutter has its own water line with a length of 12’. When bought, however, a 13-foot water tube and water nozzles are included. At 6.6 lbs. a user should not expect this to be heavy enough to make the cut deeper. The user should still add some pressure on the machine.
- Dewalt D24000S Heavy-Duty 10-inch Wet Tile Saw with Stand
As pointed out above, this Dewalt tile saw has basically the same features as the D24000 without the stand. The reason why this should be differentiated however and why this should deserve another description is that the stand actually plays very important role. It gives a lot advantages. The cantilevering cart system makes it possible for the tile saw to have a 24-inch ripping capacity.
The entire tool is 69 lbs. making it possible for a person to transport the saw and set it up in a preferred location. What makes the cutting more accurate is the stainless steel rail system which has been made part of the saw frame.
